The book selection is:
THE SEA by John Banville
Summary:
The Sea by John Banville is about a recently widowed, middle-aged art historian, Max Morden, who returns to the seaside town of his childhood summers to grieve his wife Anna, confronting memories of his first love, the enigmatic twins Chloe and Myles Grace, and the profound themes of loss, memory, and mortality through a lyrical, stream-of-consciousness narrative that blurs past and present. The novel intertwines his present grief with poignant, sometimes unsettling, recollections of his youth at the seaside cottage, “The Cedars,” where he experienced both burgeoning love and the sudden death of his young friend, all while meditating on life’s fleeting nature and the sea’s enduring power.
