Babcock Library offers an exciting opportunity for children to be introduced to, learn about, and write poetry!Poetry is a type of literature that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. The poet does this by carefully choosing and arranging language for its meaning, sound, and rhythm.Ashford’s own poet laureate, Tony Paticchio, has generously offered to lead a one-session event here at Babcock Library especially for children ages seven (7) to ten (10).Classic poems, written by venerated poets such as Robert Frost plus contemporary poets such as Gwendolyn Brooks will be featured. A special emphasis on the work of Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris will be made as they explore “lost” words through poetry and beautiful illustrations – lost words are those that are disappearing from the language of children. The class will be held on a Monday or Tuesday (depending on children’s availability) in early November at Babcock Library. The days were chosen to allow for home-schooled children to attend. Please contact Ann Harper @ librarydirector@babcocklibrary.org or phone 860-487-4420 with any questions or to express interest in participating. Tony Paticchio may be consulted directly with any questions from parents about the program (please let Ann Harper know). ... See MoreSee Less
